In the sixth week 6 of IST 195, we continued our study on Computer
forensics. We learned about the importance of backing up files and defragmenting.
I learned about the importance of backing up files because hard drives only
last from about 3 to 5 years. Data can thus be easily lost; therefore backing
up information will always be in your favor. This is important for both
business and home/personal users. We learned about ICloud computing, a way of backing
up information to an Internet site such as Mozy. This allows for information to be stored in another database
and saved forever. I learned that a computer usually stores a large file in
fragments, which makes a computer run much slower. Therefore, defragmenting a computer is usually essential
because it makes the computer run a lot faster. We also learned about hard
drives and all of their components: such as platters, tracks, sectors, and the
actuator arm, which is guided by electromagnetic pulses.
