In the sixth week 6 of IST 195, we continued our study on Computer
forensics. We learned about the importance of backing up files and defragmenting.
I learned about the importance of backing up files because hard drives only
last from about 3 to 5 years. Data can thus be easily lost; therefore backing
up information will always be in your favor. This is important for both
business and home/personal users. We learned about ICloud computing, a way of backing
up information to an Internet site such as Mozy. This allows for information to be stored in another database
and saved forever. I learned that a computer usually stores a large file in
fragments, which makes a computer run much slower. Therefore, defragmenting a computer is usually essential
because it makes the computer run a lot faster. We also learned about hard
drives and all of their components: such as platters, tracks, sectors, and the
actuator arm, which is guided by electromagnetic pulses.

What makes up your laptop?
What should I wear today? is an iPhone app of the
future. With this app, one is given various outfit choices based on what
the weather is outside. With this app, one takes pictures and stores
articles of clothing onto their application software. It sorts the
clothing based on what it is, occasion, season, and style. It is a
personal database that is specific to ones' own closet.
In our fourth week of IST 195, I learned a lot about the
internal parts of a computer. These parts include the hard drive, the
optical drive, the processor, cpu, motherboard, memory, etc. We learned about
different computers and various components that make them up. We also learned
about what makes them significant to the computers' abilities and their costs.
For instance, why a computer with 6MB cache and a dual processor will be more
expensive than a computer with less cache and a single processor. We also
learned about input sources/devices, distinctive types of storage, and the various
displays that make up a monitor. After this week of classes I really feel like I learned
about the different components that make up a computer
I also feel like the lab (4) that we did this week was very
helpful in further explaining and identifying the hardware and internal sources
of a computer. For example, we had to read and identify all the different parts
by looking at pictures of a computers and then reading about their uses. I also
learned things like, why a heating sink is necessary in certain parts of a
computer, or why the cpu might be located next to memory on the motherboard. This weeks lectures really broadened my
outlook on computers, and really broke down the overlying specifics that make
it function.

Microsoft Excel
What should I wear today? is an iPhone app of the
future. With this app, one is given
various outfit choices based on what the weather is outside. With this app, one takes pictures and
stores articles of clothing onto their application software. It sorts the clothing based on what it
is, occasion, season, and style. It
is a personal database that is specific to ones' own closet.
So far in IST 195, I feel as though I have learned interesting information that has expanded my knowledge in the technology
world. This weeks lab assignment
on Microsoft Excel, really taught me many functions in the program that I was not specifically
knowledgeable on before. One of
these components includes a pivot table; which is useful in displaying large
amounts of information. Microsoft
Excel is a very important to fully understand in today’s world. Many businesses solely rely on this
software. It is used to store and
display information in a simple and organized fashion.
Many of the functions that were required in this weeks lab
took me a few times to really understand.
I made sure to read the explanation a few times before carrying out the
specifics of the lab. I feel as
though I will never be able to master this program because there are so many
functions, but I will never stop trying.
Many people feel the need to use Excel because of the calculation
function of the program. This
aspect is present in order to prevent and avoid human error. I have enjoyed the extent of this course
thus far, and I am curious to see what other interesting information you have
in store for us next.

Fashion app of the future
I don’t know about you, but I wake up every morning and have
a difficult time figuring out what to wear. By creating an iPhone app that
tells you what the weather is going to be for that day, along with possible
outfit choices, ones life will be made a lot easier. I am definitely not a morning person, and picking out an
outfit without stepping foot outside has always been a challenge for me. I know there are a lot of people out
there that have the same dilemma as I do, and would find this app to be incredibly
useful.
This app will be targeted towards people age’s 18- 35. It will tell you how the weather is
going to change through out the day, and if it is necessary to bring additional
clothing in case it is going to change drastically. One is able to specify the type of attire they looking for in
their closet, anywhere from casual to formal.
There is currently an iPhone app called Cloth. This app only uses outfits that you
have previously worn and put together.
With this app, one must take pictures of ALL the clothing in their closet. It will then be able to match a variety
of different pieces of clothing together based on what the weather is going to
be outside for that day. The user must separate each piece of clothing into
specific categories from what it is to where they would wear it. This is a huge step passed what Cloth
is portraying. Although it will be
its competitor, this app will become more personal with its users. In the beginning, one must be able to
portray their style by uploading pictures of past outfits worn and how they
would categorize that specific outfit.
It is going to take some time for the app to truly understand ones
personal style. As the user
continues to use the app, it will be able to generate outfits based on current
fashion trends and personal style.
The app will gain a personal connection with its user. Creating this app will help make everyone’s
lives easier, along with mine.
